Home Exterior Last-Minute Checklist for Winter
Winter is around the corner! If you have not started preparing your home for the snow and colder temperatures, here’ some last-minute checks you can do. At this point, we can assist you with getting a new roof, flashing, and gutters for your home, but when it comes to windows and doors, we are still experiencing long lead times from manufactures.
Check your roof for any missing or damaged shingles or other signs of distress like cracking or granular loss. It’s important to note that majority of roofing contractors will not repair a roof that is 20 years or older.
Check your home’s chimney flashing for any cracks or openings. Often bad flashing is the culprit for allowing water into the home from the rooftop. You will want to check around vent pipes and skylights as well.
Check your gutters for any leaves or other debris. Filled gutters and downspouts can lead to ice dams during the colder months.
Depending on how old your windows are, check for any gaps or air leaks and seal them accordingly.
Inspect the moldings on the outside of the frames and caulk as needed. Replace any weatherstripping and check for air leaks.
We wish you the best this winter season! Stay warm!
